Amongst the array of Government COVID-19 support currently available for business is the $1500 NSW Small Business Fees & Charges Rebate.
We’ve noticed this rebate has slipped under the radar for a number of our clients, so we’d like to clarify the information below.
Eligible businesses or not-for-profits can apply for the rebate once, or they can also choose to submit multiple claims until the full value of $1,500 is reached.
What can the rebate be used for?
The rebate can be used to offset the costs of eligible NSW and local government fees and charges, due and paid from 1 March 2021. eg:
- food authority licences
- liquor licences
- tradesperson licences
- event fees
- outdoor seating fees
- council rates.

The rebate will be available until 30 June 2022.
Is my business eligible?
Small businesses (including non-employing sole traders) and not-for-profit organisations are eligible if they:
- have total Australian wages below the NSW Government 2020-21 payroll tax threshold of $1.2 million
- have their own Australian Business Number (ABN) registered and/or are physically located and operating in New South Wales. Only one $1,500 rebate is available for a single ABN.
What evidence is required for eligibility?
- payroll tax, and a
- valid and active ABN.
